Winding River Scarf

December 2004

My grandma saw me knitting Krys' scarf and really liked it. She hinted that she might want one like it. I wanted to create a different scarf, however, one that wasn't really like Krys' scarf. I found a stitch pattern in The Big Book of Knitting that detailed a curvy, left and right feel. It uses increases and decreases to send the center stitches back and forth. Instead of making the curves exact, I made them somewhat imperfect to see what they looked like. I thought it looked interesting, kind of like the imperfect way a river would wind. I finished it for New Year's Day and gave it to her then. Grandma had asked me what kind of yarn I had used for Krys' scarf. I told her, and she lamented that it was not machine washable. So for this scarf I used Katia Dulce Plus, which is 50% wool and 50% acrylic. The color is #54. I used size 11 needles.
This is what it looks like when you pull it straight... well, as straight as you can get a curvy scarf. --->
Close up, around my pole of a neck. -->
