Arcade Stuff > Motordome
In the fall of 2006, I decided to get a pinball machine to complement my arcade machine. I wanted one that was inexpensive, but didn't need a ton of work to be playable. I asked my friend who sold arcade and video machines and parts, who told me about this machine he had.
Motordome is a Bally pinball machine from 1986. It's not a hugely popular game, but it has some challenging shots and is rather fun. The one that my arcade dealer friend had was missing the playfield glass, had one burned out coil, a bad transistor or two, a moderately worn playfield, and shredded side art. On the plus side, it worked, had some pretty cool artwork, and had a very nice backglass with very little damage. Plus, the price was right at around $300.
I snapped it up, and immediately started working on it. I replaced the bad transistors and coil, and figured out what caused that damage in the first place (a connector that was hooked up backwards...). I also cleaned and touched up the playfield. After that, I stripped off the shredded side art (just a generic Bally logo anyway, so no big loss) and painted the cabinet. Finally, I purchased a new playfield glass and rubber ring kit, and installed those.
Here's some pictures of the completed project:
